Percy Sledge 1941-2015

A few years ago, this legendary soul singer came to perform a free concert in a town near me. He was in failing health and his voice suffered from the ravages of his illness. But he remained gentleman throughout his performance despite the drunken catcalls from the disgraceful audience. Most disgusting of all was the local entertainment reporter who tried to jump into the limo with Mr. & Mrs. Sledge. I consider this my chance to apologize to him for the behavior of my neighbors and townspeople. Percy Sledge rest in peace and thank you for that moment when you put every bit of heart, soul, feeling and unabashed adoration into your classic song, “When a Man Loves a Woman.” RIP
