Haven’t figured out Hyperlink but here’s My Tortoise As Is

I’d see it everyday on
My way home from
School so,
One after-
Noon, I
Wrapped
a rope
Round
its shell
And tied it
to the clothes-
Line
Pole.

The
Next
Morning I ran Out to yard
and Found a
Foot and a
Half of frayed rope
Still Knotted at the
Post where
My new
Pet
Used
To
Be.

Must’ve
Been a
Snapping
Turtle.

Oh no! I had a turtle when I was little. I built a fortress but it got out and left. Didn’t leave any body parts, though, thank heavens. Is this true? Or a joke?

It’s a true story. Reading the poem now. I should’ve done a better job of explaining that only 18 inches of rope was left the next morning. There were no body parts, either. Sorry about that. I’ll have to be a better editor of my posts.

I lived in Riverside, CA growing up and the turtles were everywhere.
