And I Said, “That’s Not The Point.”

I log on everyday and, most days, leave my page blank.

I don’t know why.

I don’t have writer’s block.

Most of the time, lately, I think, “Why bother?”

I have music to learn. Gigs to book. A boy to take to school.

This afternoon, I mowed the front yard and started on the back. The back yard was mostly ragweed and dandelions. They had grown high and thick and they made my worn out lawn machine groan…..till it finally died.

That’s when I noticed the neighbors behind me had taken down their old fence and replaced it with a brand new one.

I thought, “Why’d they bother? The old fence looked perfectly fine.”

I was goin’ to leave the broke down mower right where it died. I was goin’ to let it sit in the middle of the back yard over night. I was goin’ to go inside, take a shower and look for somethin’ else to do but…

“I don’t mean to be rude,” Joey, the boy I take to school, said. “I’ve been looking over your shoulder. You didn’t even notice. But no one wants to read a boring story about you mowing the lawn.”
