If Truth Be Told

I don’t like going to the coffee house to use wi-fi but, since I no longer have a smart phone nor my own personal hotspot, I suck it up and walk in to the place. The owner, is working. He’s glad to see me. He says, “Hey, man, how’ve you been. Haven’t seen ya in a long time.”

“I’ve been good,” I say.

He says, “Is it me? Are ya droppin’ by when I’m not here?”

“Naw,” I say. “I’ve been busy. Workin’.”

“That’s good.”

“Yeah, it is good.” And it is good. Or, it has been good. The gigs are startin’ to come. I thought the season was goin’ to be a disaster but…somebody at the grille remembered I played piano and booked me and that little pebble of an offer started rollin’ till it’s now a medium sized boulder of 6-10 shows a week lopin’ it’s way down the live music season hill.

6-10 shows a week is good. I’d like it to be a bit better (8-12) but I’ll settle for what I’ve got and hope it goes past spring, through summer and into fall. In other words, till the boulder hits bottom.

That way, I’ll keep busy and, as a consequence, stay away from this coffee house and its owner.

Coz he bugs me.
