Winter Storm Look Out

So it’s wet and cold outside. The radio says, ” There’s a Winter Storm Warning for tonight and tomorrow. Expect icy rain, sleet and snow.”

Jeez. It hasn’t snowed here in almost 21 years. I’m lookin’ forward to it to tell the truth. I’m lookin’ forward to my lawn covered w/ snow and the streets turned to ice. My heat pump’s not workin’ so my house’ll be cold, but it’s been cold all winter and, so far, quilts, blankets and hot, hot coffee have been enough to get me through.

And it will be enough to get me through these next couple of days.

My God-son, Joey, is excited. He says, “No school for 2 days and snow. I hope there’s enough to build a snow man.”

I do, too. Enough to build a snow man. Enough to change the scenery of my neighborhood.

Last time it snowed here the shallow end of the sound froze over. Folks were gettin’ out of their cars and walkin’ on water. Me, I was lookin’ for a snowball fight.

Maybe I’ll find it tomorrow.
